The Parry Sound Area Development Community has a high degree of connectivity, supported by an extensive, local transportation network. Roadway, waterway, airway, and railway services create this transportation network proficient in personal and freight movement to and from provincial, national and international destinations.

Roadway Access

Highway 400, a major four lane portion of the Trans-Canada Highway System, connects Toronto to the Parry Sound Area Development Community and soon will be extended north to Sudbury. Highway 400 in addition to the community's other primary highways, including Highway 69, 124 and 141 create a strong roadway network providing easy access to other communities and major urban centers.

Ontario Northland Bus Service provides passenger transportation to and from Barrie, Toronto and Sudbury three times daily in addition to servicing numerous other routes.

Waterway Access

Desirable access to the St. Lawrence Seaway is provided through the Parry Sound Harbour. The harbour has a navigational season of 245 days and a channel depth of 27 feet. In addition to serving the community commercially, the Parry Sound Harbour is also a vital port for Cruise Ships, including the locally operated Island Queen Cruise. Waterway access for smaller watercraft is abundant with 15 marinas and 32 boat launches located within the community.

Airway Access

The Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport is the Parry Sound Area Development Community's local airport. With year round access to a 4000' runaway, the airport provides an efficient transportation link to other communities and international airports. Georgian Bay Airways also provides commuter services locally.

The Pearson International Airport is a mere 45 minute flight or 2 1/2 hour drive from the community and services over 1,000 flights daily (Lester B. Pearson International Airport Aircraft Movements, 2006).

Railway Access

The Parry Sound Area Development Community has both Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway transcontinental line service providing freight pick up and delivery options. Passenger service is also available through Via Rail Canada which has routes to Toronto, and all points west, multiple times per week.
