The first step of the Broadband Canada: Connecting Rural Canadians program is to get a clear picture of where broadband services are available, and where they are not. Industry Canada is working with other levels of government and the private sector to define a detailed map of service availability.
The Government of Canada is working to close the ''digital divide" that leaves Canadians living in unserved, and underserved, areas at a disadvantage. Broadband helps Canadians access information and services that might otherwise be out of reach, enabling access to health, financial and government services and distance-learning. Broadband helps Canadians stay connected with family, friends and current events - online activities that many of us can take for granted.
